Garden Violator Saga, Part 1

It is always in the same place. Top, left corner. Right where the melons are. A deep hole dug straight into the ground. Big enough to put my clenched fist inside. Every morning it is there. I fill it in and, the next day, it is back. I have put stakes up, wooden blocks, garden gnomes, whatever I could find to put there in an effort to deter whatever mysterious creature it is from digging in my garden, but it is all to no avail. Somehow, it always finds a way to dig its cursed hole. Always in the same area. My cat, she does nothing about it. I place her in the garden and tell her that she has one job. One, singular purpose. Find that garden defiler and bring it to justice. She looks up at me, feebly meows, hikes her tail up, and then, urinates all over my crops. Dammit cat. But, these poor melons. So young and innocent. Incapable of protecting themselves. What do I do? What can I do? I search my closet for my trusty slingshot. Guns are far too noisy for this quiet neighborhood. I grab a few marbles, some rocks, shards of glass. Tonight, I will stake out the garden. Tonight, I will stop that blasted creature in its tracks. Tonight, my melons shall know peace.
